Dance Film Festival @ National Film Theatre &
Genesis Cinemas
Coming Soon to National Film Theatre, Southbank
and Genesis Cinema in East End, comes the 2nd
Constellation Change Screen Dance Festival. The
festival is one of the most exciting independent
'dance on film' festival's in the World, and
takes place (Wednesday 20th & Saturday 23rd
March 2002),programming two days of dance on film
events. Each year the festival receives over
seventy dance films from all over the world,
mostly from European countries, but a large
contingent are now from Canada, Australia, India,
New Zealand and the United States.
Master Class
On Wednesday 20th March 2002, 09:30am-1.00pm,we
present a half day Dance on Film - Master Class
is led by Award Winning film Choreographers Liz
Aggiss, Billy Cowie and Film director Bob Bentley.
Participants, will learn all aspects of preparing,
shooting, scoring and editing a dance for camera
film. Admission £15.00 in advance
Debate
Also, on Wednesday 20th March 2002 (2.00pm- 4.00pm),
the Festival holds it's inaugural debate focusing
on dance within film. "How Does Dance on
Screen MOVE dancers?" has a selected group
of panellists including Rodney Wilson (BBC Dance
For Camera), Jennifer McLachlan (Arts Council /Dance
and New Media), and Carol Straker (Constellation
Change Screen Dance Festival), Shakila Maan (Director,
S&M Films) ,who share their views, with an
interactive audience. Admission £6.00
International Dance On Film Screenings
On Saturday 23rd March 2002, Film Screenings take
place at the Genesis Cinema, Mile End. Seven
films , including five being shown in the UK for
the first time. New work includes the Award
Winning "When Dancers Go Bowling" by
Philadelphia's Michael De Mirjian. MTV Wiz
director Steve Harris brings "The Best Of
Seven",which features Brooklyn's Creative
Outlet. We also showcase work by innovative
British-choreography talent. Choreographers Akram
Khan, H-Patten, Samantha Birt also feature on the
programme. Screenings 6.00pm & 7.30pm
Admission £8.00
The Festival also proud to welcome Akin Souleyman
and Amanda K.Scott French TV producers of "Launch"
dance on Camera series . Also, Fauzia Mohomedein
and Ghulam Mohomedein from the forthcoming dance
documentary TV series "You Don't Dance Like
Me".

Pre-Performance Programs for Coppelia:
Casual Classics Lecture Luncheons: This informal
Lecture Luncheon takes place at
the PBT Studios on Thursday, one week prior to
the opening of each production
except The Nutcracker. Lecture Luncheons begin at
11:30 AM with a light box
lunch at minimal cost. We then move into the
studios where Artistic Director,
Terrence S. Orr and ballet masters,
choreographers and dancers conduct a working
rehearsal. Mr. Orr gives background on the
production and introduces any guest
artists that may be in town working on the ballet.
A Q&A opportunity follows the
rehearsal.

Opening Night Pre-Performance Lectures: Join our
host for these informative and
entertaining lecture-demonstrations on opening
night, from 6:00-7:00 PM in the
Benedum Center rehearsal studios. Guests may
include members of our resident
artistic staff and/or visiting artists. Box
suppers from the Fluted Mushroom may
be ordered one week in advance at a cost of $14
including beverage. For more

Talks with Terry: Artistic Director Terrence S.
Orr will host an informal
conversation in the Benedum Center for the
Performing Arts, before the
subscriber matinee performance, on Sunday from 1:00-1:30
PM. Participants have
an opportunity to watch the dancers' class on
stage and then participate in a
conversation with Terry about ballet, the artists,
and the production they are
about to see. A Sunday Matinee ticket is required.
Simply let the doorman know
you are there for Talks with Terry, and he will
direct you into the theater.

The Family Pointe: This Saturday Matinee "insider"
preview is a new
Pre-Performance program designed to appeal to
families with children between the
ages of five and fourteen. However, the programs
may be enjoyed by children of
all ages and will provide an educational look at
various aspects of the ballet
performance. The Program will be held from 12:30-1:30
PM in the Benedum Center
rehearsal studios. Come see how baseball skills
seen on the diamond are
translated into ballet steps fit for the stage.
Funded by the Lazarus Fund of
the Federated Foundation.

NEW BOOK - "Dance
Critique"
The Association of Ballet Artists of Slovenia
issued a new book called
'Dance Critique' based on the seminar which was
lead by Richard Merz, dance and theatre critic
from Zurich in November 2000 in Ljubljana. The
book is bilingual, in English and Slovenian
language. The main subjects of the book are:
Critique and critics (Three main possiblities,
Dance critique and music critique, Dance and its
works, The special position of dance in our
culture, The fragile basis of dance critique),
Prejudice and judgement
(About modern dance, About classical dance, About
both styles, Knowledge of music) and How to write
a critique (The three phases, Preparation,
Attending the performance, Writing the critics
Editor : Henrik Neubauer.
